FAQ

What causes acne? How can Skintention skin care treatments help?

Acne is the most common skin disorder, and 85 percent of all Americans will experience it sometime in their lifetime. While commonly thought to be an adolescent problem, it can appear at any age, most often on the face, back, and chest.

For most people, acne is an inherited condition of the pores, their pores clog with dead skin cells much faster than normal, involving the overproduction of oil, the blockage of follicles that release the oil, and the growth of bacteria in those follicles. This can be triggered by many things, including a change in medications or a change in hormone levels caused by stress or other factors.

There are 4 grades of acne: Grade 1 is the mildest form, with open and closed comedones (whiteheads and blackheads), Grades 2 and 3 include papules and pustules as well, Grade 4 is the most advanced form, with all the above plus the appearance of cysts or nodules beneath the skin surface, that can be dime size or larger. Acne is not only painful but can be very emotionally and psychologically challenging as well.

Who can benefit from an Acne Treatment at Skintention?

Anyone who has acne will benefit from treatment. Acne sufferers often state their quality of life and self-esteem improves dramatically once their acne is clear. Chances are you’ve already tried over-the-counter products with disappointing results.

We will go over the treatment options that would be the most successful for you.

How should I prepare for my Acne Treatment visit with Skintention?

Be ready to fill out an intake form and describe all medications and skin care products you are using. We will do an analysis of your skin, look for any interactions between products and medications, and devise a treatment plan that’s suitable for your unique needs.

Keep in mind that results require a commitment on your behalf to follow a prescribed home care and treatment regimen.

This often involves a series of bi-weekly treatments. It takes time to balance the skin and treat acne. Though results may not happen overnight, you are on the path to reclaiming your beautiful, clear skin!

What should I expect from my Acne Treatment?

You should expect regularly scheduled treatments. Your treatment program begins with an acne treatment. This may include a peel/exfoliation, extractions, a mask, anti-bacterial and balancing products, or some combination of these.

The goal is to deeply cleanse follicles and disinfect them, clearing away oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells.

What about home care?

We will provide the best guidance on caring for your skin between treatments. Generally, this will involve keeping your skin clean and avoiding picking at your pimple.  It’s very important you follow instructions given to you. Untreated acne can lead to continuing, worsening outbreaks and scarring.

We will be in close contact with you to be sure your products are working effectively for you. As your treatment progresses, we may change your home care routine to fit your changing skin’s needs.

What is your cancellation & refund policy?

Cancellation Policy
Scheduling: Please make every effort to schedule your appointment for a day and time that will work for you. If you are over 18, you are responsible for booking, securing and keeping your appointment. If you feel there’s a chance you’ll be unable to keep your appointment for any reason, please don’t schedule one until you’re certain about your plans.
Confirming your appointment: When we book your appointment, our scheduling software sends an email confirmation. Once an appointment is booked, unless we hear otherwise in advance, we expect you to be available. We require a working phone number with voicemail in the event we need to reach you for any reason. When possible, we will text or call to confirm your appointment, but please don’t rely on us to “remind you” about your upcoming appointment. Whether or not we’re able to text or call to confirm, we expect you to be available or call to cancel with adequate notice.
Cancellation and no-shows: If you’re unable to keep your appointment, we require a full 48-hour notice. Our phone lines are voicemail answered 24 hours a day and voicemail messages are time-stamped.

Prepaid appointments: Appointments must be prepaid. Prepaid appointments are non-refundable and subject to our Cancellation Policy if they are missed without a full 48-hour notice or canceled late and must be rescheduled. No cash refunds on prepaid appointments. No exceptions.
Prepaid appointments are non-refundable and will become void if (a) you cancel at the last minute (less than a full 48-hour notice), (b) you fail to show up at all.
In the event of a true emergency, please call the office or text us immediately. Lack of childcare or hitting traffic are NOT emergencies and not valid reasons to cancel your appointment at the last minute. True emergencies require documentation and will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Our Cancellation Policy allows us to keep our prices reasonable and gives us sufficient time to contact another client who may be waiting for a time slot. Without adequate notice, we’re unable to contact the clients on our waiting list who really need an appointment. If your appointment was prepaid or part of a package, prepaid treatment series, or gift certificate, failure to cancel with adequate notice will void that appointment.
